 Jeremiah 40, verse 11-16

¹¹ When all the Jews in Moab, Ammon, Edom and all the other countries heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant in Judah and had appointed Gedaliah son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, as governor over them, ¹² they all came back to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah at Mizpah, from all the countries where they had been scattered. And they harvested an abundance of wine and summer fruit.

¹³ Johanan son of Kareah and all the army officers still in the open country came to Gedaliah at Mizpah ¹⁴ and said to him, “Don’t you know that Baalis king of the Ammonites has sent Ishmael son of Nethaniah to take your life?” But Gedaliah son of Ahikam did not believe them.

¹⁵ Then Johanan son of Kareah said privately to Gedaliah in Mizpah, “Let me go and kill Ishmael son of Nethaniah, and no one will know it. Why should he take your life and cause all the Jews who are gathered around you to be scattered and the remnant of Judah to perish?”

¹⁶ But Gedaliah son of Ahikam said to Johanan son of Kareah, “Don’t do such a thing! What you are saying about Ishmael is not true.”

یَرمِیاہ جدلیاہ کے پاس قیام کرتا ہے

1اور اِسی طرح جب اُن سب یہُودیوں نے جو موآب اور بنی عمُّون اور ادُوم اور تمام مُمالِک میں تھے سُنا کہ شاہِ بابل نے یہُوداؔہ کے چند لوگوں کو رہنے دِیا ہے اور جِدلیاؔہ بِن اخِیقاؔم بِن سافن کو اُن پر حاکِم مُقرّر کِیا ہے۔ 12تو سب یہُودی ہر جگہ سے جہاں وہ تِتّربِتّر کِئے گئے تھے لَوٹے اور یہُوداؔہ کے مُلک میں مِصفاؔہ میں جِدلیاؔہ کے پاس آئے اور مَے اور تابِستانی میوے کثرت سے جمع کِئے۔

جِدلیاہ کا قتل

13اور یُوحناؔن بِن قرِیح اور لشکروں کے سب سردار جو مَیدانوں میں تھے مِصفاؔہ میں جِدلیاؔہ کے پاس آئے۔ 14اور اُس سے کہنے لگے کیا تُو جانتا ہے کہ بنی عمُّون کے بادشاہ بعلِیس نے اِسمٰعیل بِن نتنیاؔہ کو اِس لِئے بھیجا ہے کہ تُجھے قتل کرے؟ پر جِدؔلیاہ بِن اخِیقاؔم نے اُن کا یقِین نہ کِیا۔ 15اور یُوحناؔن بِن قرِؔیح نے مِصفاؔہ میں جِدلیاؔہ سے تنہائی میں کہا کہ اِجازت ہو تو مَیں اِسمٰعیل بِن نتنیاؔہ کو قتل کرُوں اور اِس کو کوئی نہ جانے گا۔ وہ کیوں تُجھے قتل کرے اور سب یہُودی جو تیرے پاس جمع ہُوئے ہیں پراگندہ کِئے جائیں اور یہُوداؔہ کے باقی ماندہ لوگ ہلاک ہوں؟

16پر جِدلیاؔہ بِن اخِیقاؔم نے یُوحناؔن بِن قرِیح سے کہا تُو ایسا کام ہرگِز نہ کرنا کیونکہ تُو اِسمٰعیل کی بابت جُھوٹ کہتا ہے۔

My point of view about above verses

Gedaliah was appointed as governor over Jerusalem for all poor who left in the land and Gedaliah told them to be submissive to king of Babylon and I am here to take care of you - so plant your wine and olives and store them and live in your cities   

Now Jews who scattered in various cities came to Judah after knowing that Gedaliah is apponited as governor and plant their vinyards and had abundace crops but Ishmael son of Nethaniah, want to kill him and Johanan son of Kareah tell privately to Gedaliah, let me go and kill Ishmael so that ramant of Judah do not perish but Gedaliah stopped him to do so

 May God give us wisdom to understand Him through His Word as He speaks with us through this word and prophets - and apply it in our lives to have a blissful life on earth
