Leviticus 21 verse 16-23
Rules for Priests
16 The Lord said to Moses, 17 “Say to Aaron: ‘For the generations to come none of your descendants who has a defect may come near to offer the food of his God. 18 No man who has any defect may come near: no man who is blind or lame, disfigured or deformed; 19 no man with a crippled foot or hand, 20 or who is a hunchback or a dwarf, or who has any eye defect, or who has festering or running sores or damaged testicles. 21 No descendant of Aaron the priest who has any defect is to come near to present the food offerings to the Lord. He has a defect; he must not come near to offer the food of his God. 22 He may eat the most holy food of his God, as well as the holy food; 23 yet because of his defect, he must not go near the curtain or approach the altar, and so desecrate my sanctuary. I am the Lord, who makes them holy.’”
24 So Moses told this to Aaron and his sons and to all the Israelites.
My point of view about above verses
God told Moses if a person has any kind of defect (bodily) in Aaron’s descendants must not come near God sanctuary to offer food for God. They may eat most holy food of their God but they should not come near the curtain or approach the altar and insult my sanctuary. I am the Lord who makes them holy
God says I am Lord your God - You have to follow what I am telling you to do - I make my priests holy - means i separated them from other people to be in my presence all the time - & for this they need to follow certain rules
It seems its not so simple to become a priest - God wants his priests to follow rules and regulation to conduct this duty the way God wants
They are presenting food offering to the Lord so they should be without any bodily defect - if they have any they should come near the most holy place
- They have been consecrated for a religious purpose - so they must follow the rules
We need to live in this world as God wants us to live - we have to do what he is telling us to do-
May God inclined us to obey his words to lead our lives the way God wants us to live on this earth -
May God bless all those who are obeying His commandments
