Leviticus 25 verse 39-46
39 “‘If any of your fellow Israelites become poor and sell themselves to you, do not make them work as slaves. 40 They are to be treated as hired workers or temporary residents among you; they are to work for you until the Year of Jubilee. 41 Then they and their children are to be released, and they will go back to their own clans and to the property of their ancestors. 42 Because the Israelites are my servants, whom I brought out of Egypt, they must not be sold as slaves. 43 Do not rule over them ruthlessly, but fear your God.
44 “‘Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. 45 You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. 46 You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly.
(39)اور اگر تیرا کوئی بھائی تیرے سامنے اَیسا مُفلِس ہو جائے کہ اپنے کو تیرے ہاتھ بیچ ڈالے تو تُو اُس سے غُلام کی مانِند خِدمت نہ لینا۔
(40)بلکہ وہ مزدُور اور مُسافِر کی مانِند تیرے ساتھ رہے اور سالِ یوبلی تک تیری خِدمت کرے۔
(41)اُس کے بعد وہ بال بچّوں سمیت تیرے پاس سے چلا جائے اور اپنے گھرانے کے پاس اور اپنے باپ دادا کی مِلکِیّت کی جگہ کو لَوٹ جائے۔
(42)اِس لِئے کہ وہ میرے خادِم ہیں جِن کو مَیں مُلکِ مِصر سے نِکال کر لایا ہُوں ۔ وہ غُلاموں کی طرح بیچے نہ جائیں۔
(43)تُو اُن پر سختی سے حُکمرانی نہ کرنا بلکہ اپنے خُدا سے ڈرتے رہنا۔
(44)اور تیرے جو غُلام اور تیری جو لَونڈیاں ہوں وہ اُن قَوموں میں سے ہوں جو تُمہارے چَوگِرد رہتی ہیں ۔ اُن ہی میں سے تُم غُلام اور لَونڈیاں خرِیدا کرنا۔
(45)ماسِوا اِن کے اُن پردیسِیوں کے لڑکے بالوں میں سے بھی جو تُم میں بُود و باش کرتے ہیں اور اُن کے گھرانوں میں سے جو تُمہارے مُلک میں پَیدا ہُوئے اور تُمہارے ساتھ ہیں تُم خریدا کرنا اور وہ تُمہاری ہی مِلکِیّت ہوں گے۔
(46)اور تُم اُن کو مِیراث کے طَور پر اپنی اَولاد کے نام کر دینا کہ وہ اُن کی مورُوثی مِلکِیّت ہوں ۔ اِن میں سے تُم ہمیشہ اپنے لِئے غُلام لِیا کرنا لیکن بنی اِسرائیل جو تُمہارے بھائی ہیں اُن میں سے کِسی پر تُم سختی سے حُکمرانی نہ کرنا۔
My point of view about above verses
God told Israelite that if one of your brethren becomes poor - You need to help him -You can take them as slaves but do not be harsh with them and they must be released in Jubilee year if they are not able to pay their debt before that year.
Jubilee year is the 50th year - They has to be released from their bondage as Israelite are my slaves and you need to fear me- If you need slaves you can take them from other nations and if they are not able to pay their debt - they can be your slaves for life -time - But you can not treat your brethren like this
In ancient world slavery is preferred on death - so person sell themselves to pay off their debts - It used to be mutual understanding - however God wants that if we have slaves - they should be treated fairly
Let God give us wisdom to understand his word and apply in our lives
We need to live in this world as God wants us to live - we have to do what he is telling us to do- as it is in our advantage in the long run
