Joshua; Chapter 7 Verse 16-26
Achan’s Sin
16 Early the next morning Joshua had Israel come forward by tribes, and Judah was chosen. 17 The clans of Judah came forward, and the Zerahites were chosen. He had the clan of the Zerahites come forward by families, and Zimri was chosen. 18 Joshua had his family come forward man by man, and Achan son of Karmi, the son of Zimri, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was chosen.
19 Then Joshua said to Achan, “My son, give glory to the Lord, the God of Israel, and honor him. Tell me what you have done; do not hide it from me.”
20 Achan replied, “It is true! I have sinned against the Lord, the God of Israel. This is what I have done: 21 When I saw in the plunder a beautiful robe from Babylonia,two hundred shekels of silver and a bar of gold weighing fifty shekels I coveted them and took them. They are hidden in the ground inside my tent, with the silver underneath.”
22 So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran to the tent, and there it was, hidden in his tent, with the silver underneath. 23 They took the things from the tent, brought them to Joshua and all the Israelites and spread them out before the Lord.
24 Then Joshua, together with all Israel, took Achan son of Zerah, the silver, the robe, the gold bar, his sons and daughters, his cattle, donkeys and sheep, his tent and all that he had, to the Valley of Achor. 25 Joshua said, “Why have you brought this trouble on us? The Lord will bring trouble on you today.”
Then all Israel stoned him, and after they had stoned the rest, they burned them. 26 Over Achan they heaped up a large pile of rocks, which remains to this day. Then the Lord turned from his fierce anger. Therefore that place has been called the Valley of Achor ever since.
Lord turned from his anger when Israelites stoned Achan son of Zerah his sons and daughter and all his household
16 اگلی صبح یشوع سبھی بنی اسرائیلیوں کو خدا وند کے سامنے لے گیا۔ سارے خاندانی گروہ خدا وند کے سامنے کھڑے ہو گئے۔ خدا وند نے یہوداہ خاندان کے گروہ کو چُنا۔ 17 تب تمام یہوداہ خاندانی گروہ کے قبیلہ خدا وند کے سامنے کھڑے ہوئے۔ تب اس نے زِرہ کے قبیلہ کو چُنا تب اس گروہ کے لوگ خدا وند کے سامنے کھڑے رہے تب اس نے زِمری کے خاندان کو چُنا۔ 18 تب یشوع نے اُس خاندان کے تمام مردوں کو خدا وند کے سامنے آنے کے لئے کہا۔ خدا وند نے کرمی کے بیٹے عکن کو چُنا ( کرمی زمری کا بیٹا تھا اور زمری زارح کا بیٹا تھا۔)
19 تب یشوع نے عکن سے کہا ، “بیٹے تمہیں اپنے لئے دعا کرنی چاہئے۔ تمہیں اسرائیل کے خدا وند خدا کی تعظیم کرنی ہوگی اور اس کے سامنے گناہوں کا اقرار کرنا چاہئے مجھ سے کہو تم نے کیا کیا اور مجھ سے کوئی چیز چھپانے کی کو شش نہ کرو۔”
20 عکن نے جواب دیا ، “یہ سچ ہے میں نے اسرائیل کے خدا وند خدا کے خلاف گناہ کیا یہی ہے جو میں نے کیا۔ 21 ہم نے یریحو کے شہر پر اور اُس کی ہر چیز پر قبضہ کیا۔ میں نے اُن چیزوں میں ایک خوبصورت کوٹ اور تقریباً دو سو مثقال چاندی اور پچاس مثقال سونادیکھا۔ میں اُن چیزوں کو اپنے لئے رکھنے کا بہت خواہشمند تھا۔ اس لئے میں نے ان کو لیا۔ تم ان چیزوں کو میرے خیمے کے نیچے زمین میں دبی ہوئی پاؤ گے چاندی کوٹ میں ہے۔”
22 اس لئے یشوع نے چند آدمیوں کو خیمہ میں بھیجا۔ وہ خیمہ کی طرف دوڑے اور وہاں ان چیزوں کو چھپا ہوا پایا۔ چاندی کوٹ میں تھی۔ 23 وہ لوگ ان چیزوں کو خیمہ سے باہر لائے اور اُن چیزوں کو یشوع اور سبھی بنی اسرائیلیوں کے پاس لے گئے انہوں نے اسے خدا وند کے سامنے زمین پر ڈال دیا۔
24 تب یشوع اور سب لوگ زارح کی نسل کے عکن کو عکور کی وادی میں لے گئے۔ اُنہوں نے چاندی ، کوٹ،سونا ، عکن کے بیٹوں اُسکے مویشیوں گدھوں بھیڑوں خیمہ اور اسکی تمام چیزوں کو وہ عکن کے ساتھ عکور کی وادی میں لے گئے۔ 25 تب یشوع نے کہا ، “تم نے ہمارے لئے یہ سب مصیبتیں کیوں کیں ؟” اب خدا وند تم پر مصیبت لائے گا۔ تب تمام لوگوں نے عکن اور اُس کے خاندان پر اُس وقت تک پتھر پھینکے جب تک وہ مر نہیں گیا۔ انہوں نے اسکے خاندان کو بھی مار ڈالا۔ تب لوگوں نے انہیں اور اسکی تمام چیزوں کو جلا دیا۔ 26 عکن کو جلانے کے بعد اس کے جسم پر انہوں نے کئی چٹانیں رکھیں۔ وہ چٹانیں آج بھی وہاں ہیں۔ اس طرح خدا وند نے عکن پر مصیبتیں لائیں اسی لئے وہ جگہ عکور کی وادی [a] کہلاتی ہے اسکے بعد خداوند نے لوگوں پر غصہ نہیں کیا۔
My point of view about above verses
God told Joshua be strong and courageous – be careful to obey my laws and decrees Moses gave you- don’t turn right or left so that you may be successful wherever you go –
After capture of Jerico city ;Israelites were unfaithful in devoted things so Lord’s anger burned against them
God told Joshua – Israelites has sinned they have broke the covenant and take some of the devoted things – they have taken some of devoted things – they stole – they lied – they turn their backs and run so they are liable to destruction
God told Joshua tell Israelites there are dedicated things among you – you can’t stand against your enemies until and unless you remove them so consecrate yourselves in preparation for tomorrow
Morning present yourself tribe by tribe, then clan by clan and then family by family and then man by man so whoever is caught with the devoted things shall be destroyed by fire along with all that belongs to him – By violating the covenant of the Lord – he has done a shameful thing in Israel
As God told son of Zerah of the tribe of Judah was chosen and Israelites stoned them to death as God said
– I will not be with you any more unless you destroy whatever among you is devoted to destruction
God wants us to be up-right in our dealings towards Him and our fellow-beings and repent before He catch us as after that very bad happens - and if families are all together in doing bad- their destiny will be destruction
May God give us wisdom to understand His Word and apply it in our lives
