Leviticus 23 verse 26 - 32
The Appointed Festivals
The Day of Atonement
26 The Lord said to Moses, 27 “The tenth day of this seventh month is the Day of Atonement. Hold a sacred assembly and deny yourselves,and present a food offering to the Lord. 28 Do not do any work on that day, because it is the Day of Atonement, when atonement is made for you before the Lord your God. 29 Those who do not deny themselves on that day must be cut off from their people. 30 I will destroy from among their people anyone who does any work on that day. 31 You shall do no work at all. This is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to come, wherever you live. 32 It is a day of Sabbath rest for you, and you must deny yourselves. From the evening of the ninth day of the month until the following evening you are to observe your Sabbath.”
(26)اور خُداوند نے مُوسیٰ سے کہا۔
(27)اُسی ساتویں مہِینے کی دسوِیں تارِیخ کو کفّارہ کا دِن ہے ۔ اُس روز تُمہارا مُقدّس مجمع ہو اور تُم اپنی جانوں کو دُکھ دینا اور خُداوند کے حضُور آتِشِین قُربانی گُذراننا۔
(28)تُم اُس دِن کِسی طرح کا کام نہ کرنا کیونکہ وہ کفّارہ کا دِن ہے جِس میں خُداوند تُمہارے خُدا کے حضُور تُمہارے لِئے کفّارہ دِیا جائے گا۔
(29)جو شخص اُس دِن اپنی جان کو دُکھ نہ دے وہ اپنے لوگوں میں سے کاٹ ڈالا جائے گا۔
(30)اور جو شخص اُس دِن کِسی طرح کا کام کرے اُسے مَیں اُس کے لوگوں میں سے فنا کر دُوں گا۔
(31)تُم کِسی طرح کا کام مت کرنا ۔ تُمہاری سب سکُونت گاہوں میں پُشت در پُشت سدا یِہی آئِین رہے گا۔
(32)یہ تُمہارے لِئے خاص آرام کا سبت ہو ۔ اِس میں تُم اپنی جانوں کو دُکھ دینا ۔ تُم اُس مہِینے کی نوِیں تارِیخ کی شام سے دُوسری شام تک اپنا سبت ماننا
My point of view about above verses
The Day of Atonement is called Yom Kippur is 6th feast of Isralites - But its not celebrated as other feasts as God told them to afflict your souls on that day -or deny yourselves means to fast and recognize your sins and ask for atonement / apology against the wrong- doings and make yourself humble before the Lord your God
God tell them strictly not to do any work and if they will not obey - there is a punishment - means they are cut off from the assembly of God's people - on the 10th day of seventh month (Tishri) - This has to be observed - by an offering made by fire to the Lord . Its strongly asked to not do any work - but just repent and reflect on your life - They are stopped to do any regular works so that they can be in God's presence with full concentration
We need to live in this world as God wants us to live - we have to do what he is telling us to do-
May God inclined us to obey his words to lead our lives the way God wants us to live on this earth -
May God bless all those who are obeying His commandments
